In this internship I researched and created materials for several events, created the Spring 2020 information calendar for local government and businesses in the area, and updated appropriate Answer Book sections. I also assisted in research relating to the candidates for elected office in Virginia, created and maintained spreadsheets, and answered emails. The High Bridge 5K is an annual event that I helped and participated in. I learned how to communicate effectively with strangers while handing out free t-shirts from past years.

I created posters for the Housing and Rental Fair and also put them up all around campus. I chose the annual Christmas ornament which was put into production and will be distributed around to some Longwood staff and Farmville officials. About 60% of my time was spent planning and organizing for the larger events scheduled such as the Christmas Tree Lighting. Stuffing bags for family weekend and directing people to the designated eating area for the Landlord Breakfast are some examples as well. The other 40% of my time was spent attending the big events and helping Jen to make sure everything ran smoothly.

Some of the tasks I completed included the ‘What to Do in Farmville’ powerpoint, which took about a week due to research and obtaining pictures from restaurants around Farmville. At the same time, I was, and still am, tasked to help create a Newcomer’s Guide to Farmville.

One of my tasks was to help find and create the new Longwood Christmas ornament. I was tasked to search Longwood photos and find inspiration that would represent was Longwood has done this past year. Because most of my classes are in CSTAC, I pass the new Joan of Arc statue every day. I had inspiration and decided that the statue would be the best option for the ornament. I chose a picture and sent it to Jen. Then, the company created the ornament. This ornament will be sent out to Farmville officials and some Longwood staff.

Another project I had was to create and distribute posters for the Housing and Rental Fair. Because the fair has to deal with houses and money, I decided that the poster should be green due to money and contain the most essential information. When approved by Jen, I walked all around campus to each building and put the posters up. This was my favorite project to do because it allowed me to see all of campus and when the posters were up, I could say that those were my creation.

The Spring 2020 important dates calendar was my last project for my internship. I had to research and look up all the events for next semester and put them all neatly into a word document. This list goes out with the Longwood calendar for the next year. It also allows for Farmville businesses to see what big events are happening.

The most time-consuming project was working on the election information. My task was to research senators and House of Delegate members that were elected in November. This was the most time-consuming because there were so many individuals to research. It was interesting to see the different individuals who were running especially because some of them lost their campaign.

Another project I had was writing Thank you notes to Longwood staff and Farmville officials. This task was also time-consuming because I had to write out around 50 cards. I went through three pens, but it was interesting to look at who Longwood sends Thank You notes too. I wrote to the major, vice-mayor, and Farmville businesses.
