Find your Home, Go Greek

Going Greek was one of the best decisions I have made in my three years at Longwood University. However, Formal Recruitment can be a stressful process, there is no doubt about it. When I went through, I was scared that no sorority would like me, or I would not fit in. However, you have to remember that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON. I absolutely stand by this saying.

Throughout this semester, I had one specific question for each sorority member I interviewed...

“What do you want girls going through recruitment to know?”

Go in with an Open Mind and Don't Listen to Others

"Keep an open mind, don’t let stereotypes and what other people tell you turn your judgement away from a sorority. You never know where you’re going to find your home." -Maggie Hanzel, ΣK

"Block out everything you hear from other people. If you meet people that get you, ignore other people's thoughts. People may make faces or say things about the organization that you are afraid to love but we were all made different for a reason." -Shannon Lyons, ΣΣΣ

"I would really encourage everyone going through recruitment to not listen to their friends, try not to pay attention to things that they have heard previously, go through with an open mind (places will surprise you), and find YOUR home and YOUR people. Go where you truly feel the most comfortable and where you can be your true self." -Nora Saxman, ZTA

Having an open mind means you are not passing judgments on these sororities beforehand. Go through and really get to know the chapters and what they are all about. You will be surprised by what you find and where you find your home if you just listen to your gut and not those around you.

Get to know the Sororities

"Greek Life at Longwood is amazing, and each sorority is a great choice! I feel as though that each girl should give each sorority a chance to show what they are made of." -Megan Leahy, ABΨ

"Trust the process because it’s designed to work and match you with your home. Don’t discount anyone or leave anybody out." -Claudia Hayes, AΔΠ

"You should try to go to open houses and get a better idea of like who’s on campus and what they do and find a place that fits your values and what you believe in and also a big part of it is giving back to the community." -Jessica Knox, AΓΔ

"I would definitely take time prior to formal to get to know as many different sororities as you can even if you haven’t heard much about them." -Clair Walters, AΣT

Definitely go to open houses and get to know the girls before going through recruitment. You want to go through looking for a home that you have the same values as, somewhere you will feel comfortable. Give every sorority a chance.

Go Through Formal Recruitment!

I would like to thank all the CPC sorority chapter members that I have interviewed this semester. This blog would not have been possible without you all and I am very grateful that you were able and wanting to help me.

My intention for this blog was to improve the view on Longwood CPC sororities and debunk the bad stereotypes of some of the organizations on this campus. I believe I have done this. The encouragement and support from some of the Greek community here has been greatly appreciated and I hope we all can treat each other with kindness and consideration moving forward.

xoxo.
